Blog 6: Experiences with Online Resources
Technology is an ever-growing aspect in the education field. There are a plethora of resources that are provided that have been integrated into classrooms. One of those resources is Diigo. Diigo is a website that allows for individuals to bookmark and tag web pages for individual or group use. Diigo is an awesome resource because it allows for easy collaboration. It can be used for many reasons, but one reason could be to store resources for group projects. That is one of my favorite features of Diigo. I can bookmark, annotate, and tag web pages and everyone in my group has access to that. One thing I do not like about Diigo is the design of the website. It can be very confusing to locate the annotations versus the regular bookmarks because the design is very boring. I think with a better layout and design the overall quality of the website will increase dramatically.
Along with Diigo, blogging is another trending form of communication within classrooms. I have never blogged before until this year. Therefore, I am still getting used to it. So far, I really enjoy blogging. Although this blog specifically is based on a class, I think I could really get into blogging about my personal life and reading others' personal blogs. One thing I have learned so far from my blogging experience is to keep blogs short and sweet. While it is important to be detailed, it is also important to keep the reader intrigued. That is a lesson I will definitely carry with me through my blogging journey.
As technology continues to advance and our reliance continues to increase, I can only imagine that as a future educator, it will be present in my classroom. For that, I plan to integrate Web 2.0 tools. One tool that I find extremely useful in a classroom is Edmodo. Edmodo, similar to Google Classroom, allows students to access all necessary information and communication in one spot. Teachers can upload classwork, quizzes, and assignments and manage communication amongst peers and teachers. I do believe that Edmodo will pose as a benefit to students' learning and classroom experience.
Here is a link to the Edmodo site.
Hey Ashleigh! I've never heard of Edmodo before, but it sounds really useful!!
ReplyDeleteI forget whether or not I left comments on the week 6 blog, so here are some more if I already did!
ReplyDeleteI think that the Diigo feature where other people can see our annotations is really cool. I agree that the design is poor and I have recently been plagued by the small Diigo menu that comes up to let you highlight and annotate; it has been blocking my work as I write and edit papers, and it is really starting to bother me.
Keeping blogs short and sweet is something that I have definitely not learned, but probably should.
I had completely forgotten about Edmodo! I actually did use it in Highschool, I had one teacher that really liked it. It had been completely deleted from my brain until now though!
