Blog 1: Getting to Know Me
Hello everyone! I am Ashleigh Bryant. I am currently a junior at Florida State University studying Family and Child Sciences with a minor in Education. I am originally from New Jersey (born and raised) but wanted to experience a different lifestyle which is why I chose FSU. In my free time I really enjoy relaxing. I have found that taking day trips to St. George Island, going on a hike at Providence Canyon, baking with my friends and even just sitting out by the pool reading a book have been great techniques for me. Technology is taking over our lives and it is important to me to figure out ways to live in the moment again without technology.
In just the past year and a half, we have seen a rise in the reliance of technology in society, but specifically the education sector. For two full semesters of college we were forced to use Zoom to attend class. Assignments were given out and turned in through Canvas, and even exams were proctored using online programs. I have always been a hands on learner. I like a pen and a piece of paper to take notes. Before COVID forced remote learning, my classes in high school relied a little on Google Classroom. Assignments were posted for us to print out and submit hardcopies or if there was a snow day, material would be uploaded to keep on track with the lesson plans. However, now more than ever schools are relying on technology to conduct daily class and my experience with technology is only advancing.
As a result of this, my personal learning network (PLN) is also growing. As mentioned before, I have never been someone to rely on technology. In the past my PLN was restricted to mainly Google Classroom. However, just since the start of college, my PLN has expanded to include tools such as: GroupMe to connect with classmates or members of organizations that I am involved in, Zoom to videochat with either advisors, classmates, professors or attend class, Instagram to send and receive visual messages to/from peers. Although my PLN is not very big, with societies reliance on technology growing, my PLN is also growing.
Maybe your PLN is bigger than you think. Do you follow any social media groups or people to get some resources (e.g., information, knowledge, tools) either for your major or for your air force career? Though you do not have close relationship, people in your online and offline spaces to whom you can reach out for helps can be in your PLN.
